Gmail turned 15 yesterday. Along with delivering millions of “circling back” and “nice to e-meet you” messages, the service is bringing more AI-boosted assistive features to its 1.5 billion users.

  • The suite includes AI-generated response options and an automated anti-spam, phishing, and malware system.

In May, Gmail rolled out Smart Compose, which uses AI to scan emails, make predictions, and suggest text in email bodies. It now saves Gmailers from typing 1 billion characters a week...although it isn’t ideal for those of us who write emails like a sailor.

And the service is growing. Yesterday, Google said it will bring Smart Compose to Android phones (iOS coming soon). And Smart Compose will soon even suggest a subject line based on the email body text (AI is slowly taking my job pt. 12).

+ Sundar’s been reading his Brew. Google wrote, “Email is at the heart of what drives businesses.”
