Plus, Anthropic wants AI development to slow down.

AI can finally remember it’s Friday. OpenAI is rolling out a better memory feature for ChatGPT. It now automatically updates what the bot knows about you as you talk to it—which means “you have a Monday morning workout class” becomes “so, did you sleep through that Monday morning workout class?” without ChatGPT needing to be reminded of the passage of time.

Now that ChatGPT never forgets anything, it might also:

  • Remember exactly where you live, unlike that one friend who asks for your address every time you hang out.
  • Understand that the 2026 marathon training plan may be off when you ask it to recommend the best ankle brace for runners.
  • Remind you that you’re doing Dry January when you ask for local bar recs.

The feature’s rolling out for Plus and Pro users in the US now, and for Free and Go users over the next few weeks. Here’s everything OpenAI says the new memory system will fix.

Also in today's newsletter:

  • Three AI prompts to prep for midyear reviews.
  • An internet conspiracy theory about a certain celebrity chef with frosted tips.
  • Meta’s building data centers in tents now.
