Plus, an experiment to replace search engines with chatbots.

A security researcher ran a journalist over with a robot mower. To prove a point. Verge reporter Sean Hollister lay down in front of a 200-pound Yarbo mower while security researcher Andreas Makris hacked and controlled it from Germany, 6,000 miles away—and there's a particularly great GIF of Hollister getting run over.

Makris discovered that every Yarbo shares the same hardcoded root password, giving him access to 11,000+ robots worldwide and every owner's GPS coordinates, email addresses, wi-fi passwords, and video feeds. Even the emergency stop can be overridden. When Makris reported the flaw, Yarbo told him his robot was "completely secure and under your exclusive control." Yarbo has since told the Verge it patched some in-app issues. The firmware reportedly remains untouched, although Yarbo said it's investigating the issue.
